HVC is an SATB choir of men and women that meets in the St. Clair Ave West/Christie St area of mid-town Toronto.
Since 2003, this non-auditioned ensemble has enabled amateur singers to improve solo, small-group and choral technique and performance in an open and engaging atmosphere. Members enjoy an eclectic repertoire, which evolves with the interests of the membership.
Under the direction of director/conductor Ben D’Cunha, members’ voices are trained in a group setting. Singers can also participate in learning solo songs for the various concerts throughout the season.
Rehearsals are held September to June, Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm at the Artscape Wychwood Barns (601 Christie Street south of St. Clair).
Optional sectionals are held Monday evenings at Ellington’s Music & Café (805 St Clair Ave West) from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
Performances:
The HVC does two choral performances per year. For the 2011 2012 season, these performances will be on December 13th, and June 19th respectively. Locations of these two concerts are to be announced.
This year the HVC is studying Duke Ellington songs, which will culminate in a performance on April 29th, 2012, at Chalkers Pub (247 Marlee Avenue, Toronto). For reservations please call (416) 789-2531.
The HVC also holds two volunteer-run cabarets each season in local venues. Members perform songs/skits/poems of their choice and are backed by a professional band. Some of the past band members have included Chris Banks, Meirion Kelly, Mitch Lewis, Jordan O’Connor, Nick Fraser, Ian Copeland, Lee Hutchinson, Terry Wilkinson, Sly Juhas, Norm Marshall Villeneuve, Alfred Gertler, and many more.
